Stainless Steel Fasteners From Marsh Fasteners
Marsh Fasteners is based in Jupiter, FL, and we have been serving businesses for more than thirty years. Living so close to the ocean has its challenges, as everyone knows. Saltwater is corrosive, and the wrong fastener material will shorten a marine structure’s lifetime. Fortunately, we have an extensive range of marine-grade 316 stainless steel fastening products.
It is not only marine structures that are affected by corrosion. Products such as kitchen equipment and storage tanks can also be damaged. Our 18-8 stainless steel range offers superior corrosion resistance, prolonging the useful lifetime of products and structures. Did you know we are a stocking distributor of leading manufacturers, including Simpson Strong-Tie, JMC JEFCO, and Hindley? Marsh Fasteners offers competitive pricing and packages our products based on our customer’s needs.

Difference Between 18-8 and 316 Stainless Steel Marine Fasteners
Stainless steel 18-8 and 316 is very similar as both are austenitic stainless steel. It is not magnetic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment. The biggest difference between 316 and 18-8 is the level of corrosion resistance. 316 Marine-grade stainless steel includes 2 to 3 percent Molybdenum, a chemical element that gives the stainless steel high-temperature strength and increased corrosion resistance.
The most common stainless steel is 18-8, containing a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is also referred to as AISI/SAE 304, a naming description given by the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Did you know the 18-8 (304) stainless steel composition was developed in 1924 by W.H. Hatfield, an English metallurgist? He named it “Staybrite 18/8”.
Common Applications for 18-8 and 316 Stainless Steel Fasteners
Are you updating your sales contact list and wondering which businesses you can target besides your current customers? We mention only some of the uses for our stainless steel fasteners. 18-8 Stainless steel fasteners are generally used in kitchen equipment, pressure piping and vessels, storage tanks, auto trim and molding, wheel covers, truck bodies, and exhaust manifolds.
Since 316 stainless steel fasteners are highly corrosion-resistant, they are ideal for marine and coastal construction projects, including jetties, piers, marinas, boat lifts, boat ramps, bridges, docks, and seawalls. They are also an excellent choice when manufacturing gazebos and tiki huts.
